This year, Iota Chapter hosted its ninth annual Global Gala, a cultural showcase, at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) on the night of Oct. 28.
Since 2007, Global Gala is an event that has drawn people from all over West Michigan to celebrate culture, diversity and unity in its community. Collegiate and alumnae sisters work hard to bring in different acts each year. In previous years, the event has featured dragon dances, cultural fashion shows, fan dances and more.
An audience of about 200 individuals watched performances from GVSU’s Taekwondo Club, Bellydance Club, Asian Student Union, Olde World Music Club and Irish Dance, KGE. There were also solo performances of a Polynesian dance and a cover of the iconic song “Imagine” by John Lennon. Sisters performed a traditional Hmong dance at the end of the show.
While Iota Chapter prides itself in hosting the event, the chapter also receives support from its community. Alumni and current students at the university are familiar with the event and look forward to supporting Delta Phi Lambda through Global Gala each year. The performances encourage curiosity, unity and education of other cultures and tradition.
