For DePaul University, Eta Chapter, it was another successful year hosting “Stroll for a Cause.” The event, held the night of Sept. 18 in the university’s student center, brought together different Greek organizations to compete in order to raise money for their individual philanthropies.

The organizations present were: Kappa Pi Beta Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Phi Epsilon International Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc., Theta Lambda Beta, Inc., and of course, Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Each organization created a routine for the two round competition. Attendees received four voting tickets with the entrance fee and could purchase more voting tickets throughout the event.

The winning organization, Lambda Phi Epsilon International Fraternity, Inc., won around $1,100 for their philanthropy. Second and third place organizations won over $100 for their organizations and every participating organization received $50 for their philanthropies. Overall, the event brought in over $1,800 that went toward multiple philanthropies!

If sisters are looking to create an event similar to this, Kryselle “Rebella” Evangelista, the event coordinator for DePaul, recommends hosting earlier in the school year (late September to early October) but to give enough time for organizations to prepare.

“Start by reaching out to orgs about participating, set price for tickets and admission, and have fun,” she said. “You’ll need to stay on top of contacting orgs and staying organized.”

An event like this is a great way to promote Greek unity and also spread awareness to various philanthropies and their causes. I had a great time attending this event and would encourage sisters to try and host an event similar to this at their own university.
