Dear Sister,

I just crossed last spring into Everlasting Sisterhood. I love it so much! I wear my letters every day and every night, even in my sleep. However, I’m not very outgoing, and I’m not sure how to approach recruitment this semester. My parents instilled within me the theory of stranger danger. Should that theory apply to recruitment? What should I do when approaching girls who seem interested in learning more about the sisterhood?

Love,

Neophyte

Dearest Neophyte,

It’s OK to not be as outgoing as other sisters. We may share the same virtues as dedicated female leaders, but we are all different in our own ways! Think about that special moment when you were recruited to learn more about the Everlasting Sisterhood. You obviously didn’t shy away. What piqued your interest in attending recruitment events for Delta Phi Lambda?

Don’t be afraid to say hello when approaching those who seem interested in learning more about the letters that mean so much to you. They could also be shy and waiting for a sister to notice them. Since you noticed them, why not say hi? Breathe, smile and introduce yourself. Let them know why you’re passing out fliers. Most important of all, as the saying goes, “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

There are a few other do’s and don’ts of recruitment, so keep the following tips in mind:
